Space to ask questions

At Bright Community Primary School in Kyebando, girls and boys had separate spaces to talk about adolescence, menstrual health, personal hygiene, respect and healthy relationships. Omuto worked with Yambi Community Outreach on the RED Campaign visit, described in our GlobalGiving report of 19 July 2026.

The conversations included boys’ role in challenging menstrual stigma. The report also recognised that boys need room to ask their own questions about growing up, emotions and peer pressure.

Students carrying the conversation forward

The visit introduced the school’s RED Brigade: a team of student champions who would lead menstrual health awareness within the school. That gave the outreach a place in school life beyond the day’s discussions.

The report’s message was practical: girls’ dignity and boys’ understanding belong in the same conversation. Schools can make room for both.
